
Universal multi-timer
controller
The low cost APB family of
controllers provide an excellent alternative for applications requiring 2 or
more conventional timers. Up to 320 unique timers may be defined
with resolutions from 10 to 999.59.59.990 msec with the capability
to add control logic to replace external relay logic, an
integrated HMI display to display and modify specific timer parameters and the
timers may be controlled with either digital or analog inputs. The APB
controller is a universal multi-timer controller.
Application note AP-11 APB Timer Functions discusses the 6 integral timer
functions (Time ON delay, Time OFF delay, ON/OFF Delay, Pulse Delay, Keep ON and
Blinker), 2 special function timers, time sequencers, time of day timers
and elapsed time timers available in the APB controller. Up to 16 of the counter/timers
may be defined as 'retentive' timers that retain the timer value in case
of a power failure.
The APB controller is available with
either 4 or 8 outputs and expansion units may be added to support up to 64
outputs. The outputs may be solid state (NPN or PNP) or normally open (NO)
relays. Low cost relays may be added to provide NO/NC relay connections if
required.
Simple timer replacement applications
require minimum programming. The types of timers required are selected from a
list of function blocks and the Trigger, Reset and Output pins are connected to
the appropriate Input and Output points. Due to the simplicity of APB Functional
Block programming additional control logic typically found in conventional timer
applications may be easily added.
